Walmart Exer Hide Beef Hide Twists

I have been giving these particular rawhide dog chews to my dogs for a long time. My dogs are large breed Pit/Boxer mix and they love them. The twists are small enough that I don't worry about them getting lodged or blocking anything. Although, deep down I still worry, and I always supervise their chewing.

I'm also worried about the fact that these things are bleached so much. You can smell the chemicals when opening the bag. I know they have to use something to kill bacteria from the skin, but there's no telling what kind of chemicals are being used. I'm also concerned that they are making my female dog, Nalah, fat.

She's not very active, she has weird eating habits, hoarding, munching, but never eating the required calorie intake for a dog her size. So it seems strange. I am convinced that these things can't be that good for your dog.

But, what really is? Preservatives, flavorings, dyes in any consumption product for dog or any living eating thing, are they really safe? I am convinced that any product with so many additives for whatever reason can't be good for any of us. We never know when we are going to be allergic to something, or get sick from something, because of some crazy bacteria. We never know if these things are going to harm our animals. It's unfortunate that some freak accidents occur from rawhide, like punctured lungs, intestinal blockage, seizures or whatever.

Unfortunately, I don't have the lifestyle to make meals or treats for my dogs or feed them all natural products from my kitchen or farm or my own garden. I have to buy everything from a store. Just like I buy all my food, I eat for myself, from the store. All the chicken with hormones, all the beef, pork, veggies and fruits with pesticides and wax all over them. Do I put my dogs lives in danger by just feeding them rawhide's? Would I put their lives in danger by feeding them human food bought from the grocery store filled with all the many chemicals that may cause sickness in humans?

I guess I'm going to have to continue to feed them Purina One(vet recommended) and give them Exerhide's as treats. It's all I can afford for food, and it's nothing different than how we feed ourselves or our children.

Dog Treats NEW
by: Anonymous

I am so upset that I can't find my dogs favorite treats. The beefhide twists, chicken flavored, is the only chew treat my dogs like. As of yet, all of my dogs are healthy. These chew treats have not harmed them in any way as far as I can tell. I wish I could get these treats back on the market. I believe it's my decision whether or not my dogs get the treats. Please, put these Exer-Hides Beefhide Twists, chicken flavored, back on the market.

Never Again
by: Brandi

My husband had been buying Exer-Hides rawhides for our German shepherd puppy because it's what his family has always given their dogs. He was told that Exer-Hides are safer than real bones which can splinter and cause injury to the GI tract of a dog.

Imagine my surprise today, then, when I pulled our puppy's new bedding out of the dryer after washing it for the first time only to find a spot bleached in the perfect silhouette of an Exer-Hide "bone". We do not use bleach in our house, so it took me a few moments to realize what I was looking at. Immediately I went to the internet to find more information.

I am so angry with myself for not having thought about the process that rawhide must have gone through to become a white Exer-Hide. I am also angry that something containing enough bleach on its surface to damage bedding would be LEGAL to sell and market as a chew for dogs. I will NEVER purchase another Exer-Hide product. This company should be ashamed of themselves.

Terrible Owners
by: Anonymous

You give your dog this nasty shi* to eat? I feel sorry for the dog.

Get some cheap frozen beef soup bones and give it one every week or so.

It's All I Can Afford
by: Anonymous

In view of the recent outrage over Exerhide dog treats and the number of dogs that have died, I am astonished to hear comments like " its all I can afford".

If you can't afford decent dog treats for your animals, how on earth are you going to manage to pay the vets bills when they take ill. Several people have had the distress of losing their pets because of these treats causing terrible breathing difficulties and high temperatures.

It's to do with the chemicals used in bleaching them and the packaging. For goodness sake make some liver cake and freeze it for them and take out what you need as and when required. Please look after your animals, they can't tell you when they are not well and its too late when they are.
