Providing Safe Dog Toys For Entertainment
What Toys Should Be Considered Safe Dog Toys
A good example of determining safe dog toys and entertainment would be to use one of our own dog's who enjoys eating the stuffing inside plush toys. She also enjoys eating paper towels and other fabrics. "Lady" came to us from a shelter at the age of ten and we don't believe that she had the luxury of many dog toys before coming to us. For that reason, we choose not to give her those type of toys without our close supervision. Determining safe dog toys basically falls on the shoulders of every dog owner. This means, it is our job to provide dog toys that we know our dogs will safely enjoy without consuming. Toy PossessiveLike "Lady", many shelter dogs arrive in their new homes having never seen or owning their own dog toy. Without understanding what the toy is for, their natural instinct is to chew and consume it. Many times shelter dogs become toy possessive until they realize that the toy is theirs.Never chase or try to remove a toy from a dog that is toy possessive. You must first develop a trust with your dog. The best way to develop this trust with a dog that is toy possessive is to ignore and allow him to bring you the toy when he is ready. Most dogs eventually realize that the toy really is theirs and that you aren't going to take it. Before you know it, he's dropping it in your lap on a regular basis.
Rubber, Plastic And Latex Dog ToysUnderstand that no matter what material the toy is made of, ultimately you and your dog will determine whether or not it is safe for him. Unfortunately, many plastic toys manufactured in China have shown elevated levels of lead and other toxins.
Consider your dog's personality as well as where the toys are manufactured and use good judgment in determining what are safe dog toys for your best friend. ALWAYS make sure that any toy is two times larger than your dog's mouth to avoid accidental swallowing.
