Rawhide

I was shopping the variety of dog chews at our local pet store when I was approached by an employee offering to help. After some discussion on the available variety she cautioned me against rawhide. Her dog had surgery to unblock an obstacle in the digestive tract which turned out to be rawhide. The Veterinarian told her that the rawhide swells as it absorbs moisture in the digestive tract and if the dog swallows to large a piece it just can't pass easily through the system. I sure don't want to put my dog on the surgical table with recovery time in the doggie hospital.
