rawhide exer-hide chips

by Lori
(Cottonwood, AZ)

I have three dogs, had four, now three, and they all chew on the flat chips, 2lb. bag, product number 68113143910 or 3909.

My dogs eat them every day; they can eat five a night without a blink. One is 130lbs one is 70lbs and there is one that is 10lbs but he can steal a chip faster than the big ones can see him coming!

My dogs are very healthy, but I do wonder what chips do to them. They have fatty deposits on their abdomens and now a few spots on the rib cage area. I have not had the ones on the ribcage checked yet and I hope they are just fatty deposits too.

Has anyone else noticed lumps on their dogs who eat rawhide dog chews? My dogs love these chips and I don't think they could live without them really. But I do hope they are safe.

They eat a lot of them, all my dogs in the past have also eaten them and loved them. For me there is no better treat for my dogs.

NOW, Wal-Mart in my town anyway, has decided to delete this item from their store and I am worried!!! I called 1-800-walmart and made an inquiry about it and they are checking into it and will call me back but I hope I can get them back into the store.

If anyone wants to help please call WalMart and ask them to keep the product number above in Cottonwood AZ, I don't know but it is probably ALL the stores because that is how they order I think for all or none.

Thanks for your help!

unsafe rawhides made by Exer-Hide™? NEW
by: Anonymous

Hi, I am located here in Tempe, AZ. I have a 8yr old Pit that is absolutely addicted to these rawhide chips.. She has been eating them for years now and just recently noticed that she has a fatty-like lump under her front arm. I wonder if it has to do with this also. Interesting.. I notice they come and go around our local Walmart's also. I heard the Exer-Hide™ brand rawhide was linked to other problems including stroke, seizures and heart attacks in dogs. I hope my baby girl is safe! Who can we trust these days?

Exerhides Chewies Addiction NEW
by: Dog Farmer

I have 7 whippets and 1 terrier in my house. I go through a bag of these at least once a week - sometimes 2. My dogs are absolutely addicted to them! I do not have any fatty deposits on any of my dogs. I live in absolute fear of not being able to buy these. They disappear from the shelf at my Des Moines, Iowa Walmart but then reappear. When they do appear I buy 3-4 bags at a time. The shelf-stocker tells me it's the manufacturer that can't/won't ship them. They do have another brand that is the same price but only has 75% as much product in the bag but my dogs don't really seem to like the new ones.

My dogs sound just like yours. I have three. One has what I would call "liver spots" on her abdomen and one has a fatty spot on his ribcage. I never attributed this to rawhide chips but maybe you have a point. They took them off the shelves out here in Jasper, Tennessee also. I guess Walmart is worried about lawsuits..
