rawhide bones and seizures

by Lori Savio
(Sicklerville, NJ)

I have an 8 yr old black lab. He has seizures about 7 times per year. I have made an observation, whenever he has a beef basted rawhide or pig ear, it almost never fails within 24 hours he has a seizure. We obviously stopped giving him these particular rawhide bones. The seizures are down to 3 per year. I do believe he has "idiopathic epilepsy" but I can guarantee you the rawhide bones increased his seizures.
I refuse to put my dog on the medication for epilepsy due to the liver damage it can cause.
