Quick to Save My Dog From Choking on Rawhide Dog Chew

Hi,
Some years ago, my large black lab was enjoying a large rawhide chew bone that had knots on either end.

From my kitchen window I noticed him acting strangely, - backing up with his mouth open. I ran out and reached down his throat - up to my elbow, grabbed the chew and pulled it out!

The same thing happened to my dobie/rottie mix. He was enjoying a rawhide chew toy and started to act like he was choking. I didn't know what to do, so I did the heimlich maneuver on him. I made a fist and put it just between his rib cage, placed my other hand on top, like he was a person and pulled up quickly and out popped the chunk of rawhide he had swallowed. I don't know if this would always work but it is good to know IT WORKED FOR ME!
