Porkhide twists causing temporary paralysis of back legs

by Carole
(Portland,Oregon)

I have a three year old Maltese named Spencer. After he started chewing the porkhide twist he was stumbling and couldn't stand straight. I didn't connect it with the twist and he didn't have another until about a month and a half later, when again, his back legs started collapsing and he couldn't walk straight. I bought these twists from Costco and I see on the label that they are made in China. Just wanted to alert others and find out if anyone else has had the same experience.

Who Knew That Yeast May Cause Temporary Paralysis In Hips/back legs of Dogs
by: mary green

My dog bear exibited the same symptoms. I didn't know what caused it. He didn't eat any treats from china, however, he did eat doggy supplements from a vet.

I fed him the supplements according to his weight and it was supposed to be safe. The supplements contained yeast which I have now found out can cause temporary paralysis in the hips and back legs of dogs. Yeast is like a poison to dogs when ingested in large amounts. I told off the vet for his incompetence and got a new vet.

Bear did recover completely, but I wanted to let other pet owners know to be aware of the dangers of yeast as some dog foods contain yeast as well.

Thank you.

Chicken Jerky Dog Treats Made In China - Liver & Kidney Failure in Dog
by: tracey

Hi Carol:
I do not have experience with pork hide, but I do have a personal history with the chicken jerky from china causing liver & kidney failure and have read numerous complaints as well.

I am trying to gather letters from any pet parents with health issues linked to made in china treats in hopes of getting them banned.

Please email me @ dayofwine@aol.com if you would like to be involved - and anyone else who may have had a problem.
