Three Natural Dog Shampoo Recipes

Create your own shampoo for dogs with these easy chemical free recipes. Today more and more people are choosing all natural products vs those polluted with dyes and chemicals. Infact this lifestyle goes beyond food.

All natural soaps and shampoos are becoming increasingly popular for people and their pets. So grab your apron and start mixing:

Cranberry Lane gets the credit for this wonderful Pet Scape™ dog soap recipe. This soap repels fleas, insects and deodorizes:

  •
1 tbsp dried finely ground Tansy flowers
    1 tsp finely ground Horsetail
1 tsp finely ground Lavender flowers
1 tbsp. Cranberry Lane’s Pet Scape Essential oil blend. (Citronella, Cedar Wood and Lemongrass)
1 tbsp. Jojoba oil (optional if pet has dry skin).

This next recipe is by Annie Berthold-Bond, Care2.com Producer, Green Living Channels. It is not only pure and free of detergents and surfactants, but the aloe vera in this natural dog shampoo will calm many skin irritations as well:

  •
    2 cups water
    2 teaspoons liquid castile soap
    2 tablespoons aloe vera gel
Up to 1 teaspoon vegetable glycerin or vegetable oil

Combine the above ingredients in a jar with a tight fitting lid. Shake to blend. Generously wet the pet's coat and pour a small amount onto the coat and lather. Work the shampoo into the skin and coat. Rinse thoroughly and dry.

This last shampoo for dogs is one that we have used many times on our own dogs. This recipe makes a nice dogs shampoo that keeps the pH balance in check by not destroying the skins natural oils that protect it.

  •
1 pint of liquid dish soap such as Dawn or Ivory
    1 pint of water
1 pint of apple cider vinegar
4 ounces of glycerine which can be found at any pharmacy.

Combine the above ingredients and store in airtight containers. Rinse well and save some of your own old shampoo bottles for your dog's shampoo. You can also get a few bottles from the dollar store if necessary.

Finishing Rinse

This finishing vinegar rinse will add a nice shine to the coat plus retain the acid mantle or the skins natural protective barrier.

  •
Combine 3 cups of warm water with 1/4 cup of organic apple cider vinegar. Gently rinse the dog avoiding the eyes.

Helpful Tips:
To avoid soap getting into the dog's eyes, some experts recommend rubbing a small amount of petroleum jelly around the eyes. Try a petroleum-free equivalent
