My Dog Died From A Rawhide Dog Bone

by Dave Kinnison
(Piqua , Ohio , Miami County)

My name is Dave , I just lost my dog to "Bloat" from getting some rawhide stuck in his stomach.

He was the best golden retriever that you could have. Part of me died on March 3, 2011 I will always feel guilty for giving him that bone that killed him. As it goes for me NEVER GIVE YOUR DOG RAW HIDE the risk is not worth it. It is very hard to have your dog die in 3hrs in your arms at the vet and then tell your 4 kids the he died.

" REX " WILL MISS YOU FOREVER GOD BLESS!

I'm so sorry
by: Anonymous

I gave my beautiful Westie a earl ham bone and within 24 hours she had died.

I can't begin to tell you how heart broken and devastated I am. I can't believe I was stupid enough to give her a bone in the first place. The vet did x rays and couldn't find a blockage, but she was doing so poorly and had been sick prior to her collapsing.

I'll never forgive myself.

No More Rawhide Dog Chews For My Dogs Either!
by: Kristi

Hello Dave, I am also very sorry for your loss.

It is so hard to lose a pet that you love dearly. I have decided this last week to stop giving my dogs rawhide chews after another incident that happened. These bones come in rolls and they eat off the end and there is a bunch of sharp broken pieces on the inside which is what mine are choking on......

So no more for us either and again I'm sorry for your loss.

Condolences
by: Anonymous

Hi Dave,

I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. My family dog just died this weekend from eating a bone... March 3rd was his 8th birthday. He was a Terrier cross Bichon, the most happiest dog ever. He was a puppy at heart, and gave us so much love and happiness to the whole family. It was an unfortunate event, no one expected him to take the bone from a plate and then choke on it. The vet tried surgery and said there was too much bone to save him.

I am so pained by his passing, I'm not sure I'll ever heal from this wound, he was like a little brother to our family. Everyone loved him, and he loved everyone.

My condolences to you and your family...
