Jimmy's Sad Story

by SUCHI
(INDIA)

I had a German shepherd named Jimmy and he was very lovely and adorable. Jimmy used to eat whatever we gave him and he was very fond of apples.

I trained him to not allow anyone to touch our gate. Whenever we would go anywhere, we used to take him with us. He was very playful and always remained alert.

Suddenly we noticed that his appetite deteriorated and he refused to eat anything and started to vomit. He also became very tired and preferred to lie down. When I saw that he was beginning to lose weight, I took him to the Pet Clinic. The doctor examined him and asked me to do a number of blood tests. After blood tests I was asked to do a biopsy. I did all the prescribed tests and to my utter disappointment Jimmy was diagnosed with canine cancer of the liver.

The reports revealed that the cancer was not in the primary stage but had started spreading. When I heard this from the doctor, I felt as if the world had come to an end for me. I was speechless.

The doctor was an excellent man and he explained to me as to what treatment would be best for Jimmy. Since the cancer was in the secondary stage there was no treatment except chemotherapy.

I used to take Jimmy for chemotherapy sessions to the hospital and it was really very painful. I used to give him all his favorite things but he would hardly eat anything.

Slowly his condition started deteriorating very fast and he passed away within six months.

All our family members were very depressed and it was very difficult for us to see his sufferings during that time. The last few days were very painful for all of us and we tried to provide him with the best comforts and affection he needed.
It was very difficult for all of us to part with him.

Like human cancer, dog cancer is also very painful and can be treated if diagnosed early.
