Natural Approaches To Hip Dysplasia In Dogs...

For the owners of dogs suffering with hip dysplasia it can be very difficult to find hope when all else fails.

This disease is believed to start in young dogs and as the dog begins to grow the tissue surrounding the joint develops abnormally.

Veterinarians see more dogs for hip dysplasia than any other orthopedic condition. Genetics and environmental factors are thought to be the primary causes.

It wasn't until one of my own dog's, "Gretchen" a twelve year old Doberman acquired this debilitating illness that I realized how limited I was in helping her.

Although her mind was still young, unfortunately her long legs and the hips that carried her, were not. She was placed on every traditional anti-inflammatory NSAID on the market. At one point she went into liver failure because the dosage prescribed was entirely to high. Although her liver managed to return to normal, we were running out of options.

One of the hardest things about hip dysplasia and osteoarthritis is that eventually most of the traditional medicines will fail. At the age of fourteen we decided that was enough for our old girl.

That was several years ago and since then I have learned alot about this illness and the other options available in treating it.

Try A Safe And Drug Free Natural Method As Well...

Although genetics play a significant role in the development of canine hip dysplasia, there are other factors that contribute to the severity:

Nutrition, nutrition, nutrition! Always feed your dog the absolute best possible food that you can. Don't take for granted that your feeding your dog a nutritious diet.

Feed Your Dog The Best Food You Can Afford

  • First, owners should make every effort to keep their dog at a healthy weight. Excess weight increases the pain and makes the disease worse on the dog.

  • Exercise is critical, take your dog for several small walks daily. Don't over do it and limit any jumping such as catching frisbees, etc.

Holistic, Plant & Mineral Based Products...

  • "Zeel" and "Traumeel" are a proven homeopathic combination that provides tremendous relief for humans and dogs alike. Holistic veterinarians successfully treat many dog's suffering with Arthritis, Osteoarthritis, Hip Dysplasia and Degenerative Joint Disease. Most holistic veterinarian's inject this combination at the acupuncture points with great results lasting over weeks.

Tablets and ointment are also available for these products. The tablets are meant to be taken sublingually or under the tongue, so this can be difficult when administering to dogs. For my own canines, I would crush the tablets before placing it directly into their mouth. This way they are not swallowing the entire tablet form.

After speaking to the manufacturer regarding the correct dosage of "Zeel" for dogs, they indicated that they are in the process of getting "FDA" approval so that they can list this on the label. Personally, I gave my seventy five pound lab two tablets daily. Again, check with a veterinarian, better yet, a holistic vet.

I would like to stress that dog owners will achieve better results from a holistic vet than the over the counter "Zeel" tablets.

  • Over the past several years, many advances have been made regarding the benefits of organic nutrients and mineral complexes. Proteins, carbohydrates, vitamins, minerals, fat and water are the necessary nutrients for all living creatures. Themselves, minerals are elements that are critical in the flow of healthy blood and the process of restoring good health.

There are nutritional supplements available on the market that offer all of the above benefits with guaranteed results for hip dysplasia and arthritis or your money is refunded.
