Highly Recommend Orijen! Used for 16 months So Far

I researched dog foods prior to getting my Golden Retriever who is my owner trained service dog.

It is very important that he is healthy and has no GI problems. I knew I would be picking up his stool when away from home for potty, so he needs a consistently firm stool. He is my first long hair dog, so I wanted a nice coat for less difficult grooming.

Orijen was at the top of every list when the evaluator was considering ingredients instead of advertising. After I learned to read ingredients, I could see why Orijen was so highly recommended.

After I got Shai at 9 weeks, I gave him time to acclimate to his new environment before slowly switching him to Large Breed Puppy Orijen. We changed to the adult Orijen according to the bag recommendation. There are a few adult choices, and you can switch back and forth without mixing within Orijen. His stool has always been nice consistency and regular. His coat is beautiful. Shai loves the dry food and readily eats it dry or with a little water on it.

We use Orijen dry cat food as well. We also use Wellness or Blue canned cat.

We live in a rural area. Tupelo has a Petsmart, but they do not carry Orijen. The closest place to buy it is an hour away at Oxford. If I had to purchase dog food in Tupelo, I would buy Wellness or Blue which are both available at Petsmart. They are good choices for people who can't access Orijen and can't afford shipping. None of the top ten listed dog foods are available in Tupelo. Many people in rural areas don't have the choice of getting these brands without paying for shipping.

Several months ago, I made a decision to add raw to his diet. We have previously used raw Honest Kitchen which is a really good dog food. After reading about raw food and looking at all the ingredients including sources of meat, I decided to add Nature's Variety frozen raw to his diet. It is not available in Tupelo or Oxford. The closest place for the frozen raw is Germantown. We buy it monthly.

I am now doing half raw and half Orijen dry. Both dog foods are very expensive and retirement years could alter my ability to purchase such expensive foods. My dog is healthy, strong, active, beautiful, and has a nice stool.

I will use these foods as long as I can afford them!
