Rawhide Bone "What Is In This Orange Center In This Bone"??

I often buy 8" rawhide bones for my large dogs and have been for 20 years now. The new one I gave yesterday had a solid bright orange formed CORE in the middle of it. I immediately took it away. Does anyone out there have any idea what this could be?
