False Advertising on Rawhide Dog Chews Packaging

I purchased a product called "American Rawhide" - their natural twist chews from PETCO.com. I purchased this product becaues on the front of the package it clearly states "Made in America" with great fanfare. However, on the back of the package in fine print, it says, "Produced in Mexico"... it is only PACKAGED in the USA. The product distributor is listed as "International Pet Supplies and Distribution, Inc.", which is apparently a wholly-owned subsidiary of PETCO.com. Apparently, they mean Made in LATIN AMERICA! While I don't have a problem buying products made in Mexico, I have a very serious problem with false advertising.

America Not United States
by: Duane

Do not become one of the people that argue their point and do not even realize that they just over looked something and were not indeed duped into believing something that was no even said. To say something is made in America is like saying something is made in Africa. America is a continent and not a country. Sure they could have said which country but would you be so upset if it were produced in say...Canada? Just be more aware in looking for something that reads made in the U.S.A. rather than America. America covers a lot of territory once you realize it is comprised of North, Central and South American countries.

Further information Rawhide Dog Chews
by: Original Poster

I contacted Petco regarding the false advertising and they referred me to the manufacturer of the American Rawhide Natural chews.... They identified the manufacturer as Hartz Mountain Company.

I will contact Hartz about this issue.

By the way, it appears that the label showing it was processed in Mexico but packaged in the USA is a small adhesive-backed label that was added to the original packaging.

Regards,
Andrea

I agree .

I noticed that, too.
I'm not so sure rawhide dog chews are the best thing for a lot of dogs.

I indulge my Charley with rawhide, but I buy the big 5" rolls. They come two in a pack and are made in Mexico. I do not buy the big rawhide bones with the twists at the ends or anything smaller like little twists, or ears, or snouts, or flips or anything like that because, my theory is, that any rawhide that is thin or flimsy, can be too easily eaten by a dog Charley's size (which is 50 lbs.) and cause them to choke or produce gastro-intestinal problems because they go down too whole and will not be properly digested.

Charley is a Standard poodle and loves to chew. The rolls give him some challenge--he just gnaws away at the end of them and takes his time. Eventually they are finished. It takes about two weeks.

Anyway, this is my take on rawhide updates,
