Dogs Shoes - Get The Right Ones The First Time
We've Pulled Together The Best Dog Boots & Shoes Available!
When many people think of dogs shoes and boots, they tend to think of over zealous dog owners who only want to include their dog in the latest fad.
But the truth of the matter is that these nifty little accessories come in handy for many different problems.
Before dog shoes were around, dog owners had to prove just how resourceful they could be by using their kid's socks for the dog.
As a temporary solution to keeping your dog from licking a sore on her paw or a bleeding cut, they work great if you can keep them on without cutting off your dog's circulation. Having used both ordinary baby socks and socks and shoes made specifically for dogs, the latter wins hands down. The difference is in the fit!
Because they are designed to fit the contour of a dog's foot, dogs shoes and socks stay on much better.
Manufacturers have come a long way at designing comfortable, practical boots for dogs compared to the earlier days.
Our Guide To Buying The Right Dogs Shoes And Boots
It helps to know exactly what you plan on using the dog shoes for before you buy. Knowing how often you plan on using them and where, will make a difference in how long they will last. The reason for this is because some dog boots such as those made for hiking in the woods or jogging on concrete for miles at a time, are made a little sturdier than others.
"What we know is that some shoes and boots are definitely better than others. Some stay on better and the seams and sole are better as well. Water proofing also makes a difference"!
We've used many different popular brands of dog boots on our dogs including high tops, thicker sole, cloth, neoprene and the list goes on. What we learned is that each dog boot although not perfect, did a pretty good job.
We also discovered that the boots probably would have lasted longer had we done our homework prior to buying.
With that in mind, we decided to put together a guide to help you in choosing the right dog shoe based upon your dog's individual needs. While there are other dog shoes and boots out there, we feel that these products are the best:

Light weight, coarse fabric, water-proof, straight design and easy to put on. Red/black, black. |
Good for walking, limited jogging on pavement or light terrain. Not meant for heavy snow or brush. Hot & cold weather o.k. though. EXCELLENT for eliminating slipping problems (wood floors, etc.) in older dogs. EXCELLENT QUALITY and REVIEWS! |
Petite to X-large. Runs BIG, choose size carefully! Reviews indicate that even small is big. |
4 out of 5 star rating based on many reviews on Amazon. |

Sturdier water proof fabric with easy on access. Red/black, orange/black, black. |
Made for heavy, rough terrain. Recommended for jogging on concrete for long distances or walking in heavy snow, brush and water retrieving. This is a tough dog boot made to go on easy and stay in place once on the dog. |
Small to X-large. Again, reviews say the BOOTS RUN BIG, so measure your dog's foot before ordering. |
This boot also received a 4 star rating from numerous reviews. |
| |
Non-skid PVC fabric, but NOT WATER-PROOF! Allows air to circulate around the foot - VERY IMPORTANT! |
Recommended for inside and limited out door use only! Cover the boot with plastic if it's wet outside. We had a bad experience ourselves with covering a wounded foot on one of our dog's when moisture got in. Keep the boot dry when your dog goes out doors! |
Small to large. No information on sizing issues. |
No reviews. However, the quality of all Ultra Paws products appears to be exceptional! |

Made of "oh so soft" sherpa fabric with a zipper in the back. |
We think these boots would be good for a dog that needs a little help, but also needs a soft fabric as well. Probably ideal for short walking distance (out to potty in the snow or short walks). The soft material may be ideal for dogs with paw or elbow deformities, but for dogs without a foot, consider Ultra Paws Wound Boot. |
RUNS SMALL according to reviews. Consider the next larger size. |
Average rating is 4-1/2 stars out of 5 on Amazon. |

A 100% all natural wax for dog's paws. |
This is perfect for dogs that refuse to wear boots, but need some sort of protection against salt, ice and mini snow balls inbetween toes. Our "Lulu" refused to walk with anything on her feet and Mushers Secret was our only protection for her. *Remember it's a wax, so clean off the wax after a walk so your dog doesn't slip on other surfaces. |
