Dog With Compromised Intestinal Tracts and Swollen Cecum
by Doug
By the end of the month he was anemic and on deaths door step. We didn't make the connection right away, as a matter of fact and after approximately $4,000.00 of blood transfusions, exploratory surgery, utrasounds, drugs and X-Rays, we ended up talking to an acquaintence who had a similar experience. Her trip to the Vet proved much less traumatic & expensive. It seems these "treats" coat the intestinal walls with a plastic/wax layer that prevents the intestines from doing their job. This resulted in obvious weight loss and throwing up. In our pet, it also resulted in bloody stools. Our current vet knew about us feeding these dog treats from the start, but said that wasn't the problem. We are feeding him Heinz baby food, he is holding this down and has started acting like his old self. We are going on Monday to a new Vet to confirm our findings. Our doggie is only 5 and we will do whatever we need to to get him healthy. I say this because if he was 10 years or older say, we may have taken our Vet's "I don't know what else besides cancer it could be" as gospel, and put him to sleep. I hope this helps others. The diagnosis isn't complete yet, but we are almost certain. Good health to you and your pets.
