Dog Sweaters Are A Must For Dogs With Short Hair...

Dog Sweaters For The Holidays!

Every old dog should have a few dog sweaters...
For older dogs with arthritis or for short haired dogs of any age, a sweater can take the chill off when it's cold and damp outside or chilly inside from the air conditioner.

Boost Your Best Friends Body Temperature...
Something so simple as a sweater or a dog sweatshirt can make your best friend feel much better.

Laying around can cause stiffness in your old dogs front and back legs. If you notice your dog limping a little after rising, chances are that he suffers from arthritis or hip-dysplasia. Although most dogs will get up and move around on their own, during the colder months many dogs prefer to just continuously lay around.

That's why it's important for you to force your dog to get up and move around every so often. Give him a few quick massages up and down his legs to help his circulation along and keep him moving.

Sweaters Aren't Just For Little Dogs Anymore...
Although she is only three years old, but because she is short-haired, our 75 pound Doberman Pinsher "Jenna" tends to get cold more often than our other longer haired dogs.

For that reason, she is the proud owner of a nice heavy dog sweater and a hooded dog sweatshirt and she loves them both.

How To Measure Fido For A Sweater...
Make sure that your pet is standing. You won't get accurate measurements if the dog is sitting or lying down.

Use weight only as a guideline since it will not give an accurate length or width. Remember, that certain breeds such as greyhounds, dachshunds or over/underweight dogs may need a custom fit.

There are two measurements that need to be made in order to get the correct fit:

  • For the length: Measure the backbone of the dog from the base of the neck to the start of the tail. That's the start of the tail ---not the very tip. Just the base of the dog's back where the tail starts. Start the neck measurement where the collar would sit naturally on the pet's back.

  • For the chest: Measure around the chest 1/2"behind the front legs. This is the thickest part of the chest. Remember that this may vary by breed.

Sweaters provide warmth and comfort for our best friends. Most owners of old dogs or short-haired dogs wish they would have purchased one sooner.
