A Dog Skin Conditioner Can Help
Your Dog's Dry, Red and Irritated Skin

Always Use A Dog Skin Conditioner After Bathing Your Dog!

dog-scratching Challenging any kind of dog skin issues can be tough, yet there are some simple things that you can do to help on a regular basis.

Although there are many choices of skin conditioners for dogs, our first recommendation is always an all natural formula. A "leave On" conditioner is a great way to provide moisture for your dogs skin continuously.

All Natural Dog Skin Conditioners

Many of the all natural brand companies are now offering conditioners that can be left on after Fido's bath. The all natural brands offer many nice dog conditioners that are made of pure ingredients known to soothe the skin.

Here is one of our favorites that you can easily make at home yourself:

Thoroughly mix together
2 Tablespoons Aveeno Colloidal Oatmeal (purchase at most pharmacies)
1 Gallon Warm Water

Once the dog has been completely rinsed of shampoo, apply the oatmeal rinse evenly massaging into the skin and fur. Do not rinse. Allow your dog to shake off any excess water and thoroughly towel dry.

Traditional Medicated Conditioners

One of the more common medicated conditioners is "Resicort" which has 1% hydrocortisone as an ingredient and aids in reducing inflammation.

"Resisoothe" is similar to "Resicort" (without the hydrocortisone) and with its colloidal oatmeal base, basically does the same thing. Both are very good conditioners that should be left on after his bath.

Always bathe your dog first before applying any dog skin conditioner. Click here for tips and details on how often you should bathe your dog.

By keeping your dog clean you have better control of any reoccurring skin problems, especially yeast. Dog scratching is an indicator that something isn't right. Keep in mind that scratching can be due to many issues such as poor diet, fleas and ticks or environmental allergies.

After The Bath

Remember, when the skin feels good, the dog feels good. Use doggie wipes to keep him clean and use conditioning spritzes in between to provide added moisture for your dog's skin.
