Dog Grooming Instructions For Giving A Bath

- Using warm water only, thoroughly wet your dog including his tail and his
belly area and don't spray or pour water directly on his face, eyes or his ears,
plus avoid shampooing his face and just use a damp cloth to wipe this area.
- Starting at the base by the tail, shake the dog shampoo to mix it and pour
a generous amount in a line from the base of the tail to the middle of the neck
area.
- Lather-up using more water when necessary while massaging gently into your
dog's skin.
- Pour a little more shampoo into your hands and lather up his belly, his
tail area and in between his toes and paw pads.
- Rinsing and removing all the shampoo is very important. If all the shampoo
is not removed, this causes flaky skin and itching for your dog, so RINSE, RINSE
AND RINSE SOME MORE.
- A conditioner is definitely recommended for all dogs, especially if your
dog has long hair and easily gets matted. Depending on the conditioner, some are
meant to be left on and some are not so follow the instructions on the bottle.
Include leave on conditioners as part of your dog grooming techniques regularly.
They are nice for dogs that have skin problems or just itchy skin.
A Good Brushing Is Important When Grooming Dogs
- It's very important to make sure that your dog is completely dry before
brushing.
- An effective technique for home pet grooming is to towel dry first and
follow-up by using paper towels to soak up any excess water.
- If your dog will tolerate a blow dryer, use it on the "Low" and "Warm"
setting. NEVER PUT THE BLOW DRYER CLOSE TO YOUR DOGS SKIN.
- Once completely dry, brush his coat several times.
Dog Grooming Instructions For Cleaning A Dog's Ears
- When cleaning your dog's ears, pick a place around the house or outside that
your dog can freely shake his head.
- We recommend Using The
Recipe On This Page That Prevents Ear Infections In Dogs.
- Most dogs tolerate ear cleaning better by wetting a large cotton ball with
the cleaner and gently cleaning the inside of the ear vs pouring the cleaner
directly into the ear.
- If using a brand ear cleaner for dogs, we recommend a cleaner that
acidifies and dries. Follow the manufacturer's instructions on the bottle.
- If the ears are extremely dirty and a wet ctton ball won't do, try using an
ear dropper to insert the cleaner. Most dogs don't like their ears being
touched, but tend to tolerate a smaller bottle vs a large bottle near their head
and ears.
- Use one hand to gently tilt your dog's head, while using the other hand to
insert the cleaner so that it doesn't simply run out of the ear and down the
face. Once you've placed a few drops in the ear, gently massage the base of his
ear while keeping his ear flap over his inner ear.
- Allow him to shake his head and gently blot any excess liquid with dry
cotton balls.
Dog Grooming Instructions For Trimming A Dog's Nails
- In order to prevent overgrowth, your dog's nails should be trimmed regularly. If
you can hear your dog's nails clicking on the pavement during walks, they most
definitely need trimmed.
- Most people shy away from trimming their dog's nails because the fear of
trimming to close and causing the Quick (vein) to bleed. Take your time and
follow our dog grooming instructions for nail trimming. Always use nail clippers
made for trimming dogs nails and trim a little of the nail at a time. After you
do this a few times, you should become at ease with it
- For dogs with light colored nails, it's easier to see the Quick, using dog
nail clippers cut underneath the start of the Quick.
- It's a little tougher for dogs with dark nails. Again, it's best to make
several small nips until you see what appears to be a black dot, which is the
start of the Quick.
