Dog Digestion And What Your Dog Eats!

The Biggest Factors For Healthy Dog Digestion Is Of Course The Food That Your Dog
Eats As Well As The Enzymes Within That Food.

On this particular subject we will provide you with different options of feeding, but as a dog owner, you must determine what type of feeding is best for your own dog. beagle-licking-chops

The Raw Diet

For many years now, there has been an on-going debate over what type of feeding is best for dogs. Dogs are considered omnivores, meaning that they can survive on both plants and animals. Yet in order for a dog to flourish, meat must always be included in his diet.

Many believe that the Biologically Appropriate Raw Food diet, also known as the BARF diet and is "raw" food only, is best for a dogs digestive system. They believe that unhealthy nutrition associated with a traditional kibble diet can be eliminated by feeding them the closest thing to what they would eat if they were hunting for food in the wild.

One of the best benefits of feeding your dog a "raw diet" is that raw meat and vegetables are high in digestive enzymes. These digestive enzymes breakdown carbohydrates, protein and fat making it much easier for your dog to digest his food. Proper dog digestion can eliminate many on-going problems such as gas and flatulence and even chronic soft stool. Many also insist that the "raw diet" can eliminate chronic ear infections and other allergies.

We recommend reading a book by Dr. Ian Billinghurst who is known as a leading force behind the "BARF" diet and has written many books on this particular subject. Besides the BARF diet, there are other ways to feed a raw diet. Dr. Richard Pitcairn, a Holistic Veterinarian offers a wonderful book titled "Natural Health For Dogs And Cats" which includes recipes using a raw diet. This is one of our personal favorites.

The Traditional Kibble Diet And Dog Digestive Issues

When it comes to feeding processed food, which is what kibbles are, every effort should be made to provide him with The Best Dry Dog Food that you can afford. Unlike raw food, any cooked or processed food lacks the necessary digestive enzymes that your dog needs for healthy dog digestion. Canine digestive problems, dog gas and upset bellies are common with dogs that eat a traditional kibble diet due to the lack of digestive enzymes and valuable nutrients.

If you prefer to feed your dog the traditional kibble diet, here are a few suggestions to provide better dog digestion for your best friend:

  •  Always include an enzyme dog supplement in your dog's diet. This helps with dog digestive problems such as flatulence and dog gas.

  •  NEVER feed just once a day. Break his meals down and feed him smaller portions. For example: If you have a large dog and he normally gets 3 cups of kibble a day, provide 1-1/2 cups kibble in the morning and 1 cup of can food with 1/2 cup of kibble mixed together at dinner time.

  •  We believe that dogs digest their food better when fed from a raised dog bowl.

  •  Once finished eating, it's very important not to allow your dog to run around. Have him lay down for at least a half an hour after he eats and make a habit of this.

Over the years we have been the proud owners of many dogs and with each new dog, we have always learned something. By far, the one thing that we learned that has made a tremendous difference in our dogs lives, was that their quality of life increased tremendously with a premium food and our process of feeding them.

It cannot be repeated enough that a premium food along with Dog Enzymes And Probiotics will help considerably in aiding proper dog digestion or for any dog that is sick.

Tip: Acidophillus and lactobacillus found in yogurt are helpful for adding healthy bacteria to the dog stomach.
