Gentle Ways To Discourage Dog Barking

Stop Dog Barking By Using A Combination Of Training And Humane Products!

Consistent hands on training along with responsible care is the best way to stop excessive dog barking and any other unwanted behavior. There are also several humane products to aid in the process. The constant barking of a dog can try anyone's patience.

However, barking is a dog's primary method of communication, their way of telling us something.

By learning to recognize the tone of a dog's bark, you soon realize that the pitch is different when he's playing, when he's guarding or when he feels distress. Many times it's the dogs that are "tied" outside that do the most barking. Dogs are territorial creatures and for that reason we highly recommend providing the family pet with a fenced area. For most people, seeing a dog living his entire life on a chain, is very disturbing. A dog that has room to run and exercise, provides a sense of freedom and this makes a happy dog.

If it's your neighbors dog keeping you up at night, you might want to first consider checking on the dog to make sure that he is safe and being properly cared for. The best way to do this is to contact your local Humane Society or shelter. They are trained to deal with these situations and Humane Agents are backed by the law. You can place an anonymous phone call without ever having to worry about giving your name. Don't bother calling your local police because this is not their area of expertise. Never feel bad about making these calls. Keep in mind that many times, it is these phone calls that make the difference in a dog's life. If something is wrong, you will feel better knowing that you helped.

If it's your own dog with the barking problem, again you must first learn a little about his language and what he is trying to say. Start by familiarizing yourself with the different tones of your dog's bark and his body language.

Common Reasons For Excessive Dog Barking

A constant bark indicates that the dog is feeling frustrated, stressed, scared or anxious.

  •  He wants in from outside to be with his family, his pack

  •  He is anxious and something is scaring him

  •  He is frustrated from being tied up

  •  He is bored due to lack of exercise and a lack of socialization

  •  He is hungry or needs water

  •  He is hurt

Like new parents who learn to understand their baby's gibber, dog owners too must learn to read and understand their dog's barking. The barking and the body language that accompany the bark are signals and a communication process. By learning to understand the tone of the bark and read his body language, you can quiet the barking dog.

NEVER IGNORE THE BARKING DOG
