Being the owners of large dogs ourselves, we know from experience how difficult it can be to find sweaters that actually fit our large chested dogs.
Although some manufacturers claim they offer large dog clothing, their sizes and selections are still very limited.
Large dogs such as Doberman's, Great Dane's, Rottweiller's and other short haired breeds can benefit from a sweater during the colder months. For older dogs of any size and those with Arthritis, warmth can help ease the pain of their aching joints.
However, until manufacturer's realize the demand for large dog clothing, you can easily make a sweatshirt for your dog at home.
How To Make A Sweatshirt For Your Large Dog
- Start with a human sweatshirt that will fit your dog comfortably. The size and girth of your dog will determine what size of human sweatshirt you should use. Mens, womens or kids will all work fine. Keep in mind that you want the sweatshirt to fit snug but comfortable.
- Depending on the fabric of the sweatshirt you're using, some fabrics fit a little tighter than others.
It's important that the sweatshirt doesn't droop underneath your dog's belly making it easy for him/her to trip.
- Next, cut the sleeves so that they will hang right above the dog's knee.
Measuring For The Correct Fit
