Adopt A Dog | Consider Adopting An Old Dog

Make A Difference - Save A Life!

adopt an older dog

If you're looking to adopt a dog, please consider an older dog who desperately needs a home. We have adopted many older dogs over the years and we absolutely loved them. They are so grateful for a second chance.

Older dogs are generally calm and enjoy a nice relaxed routine. They enjoy a leisurely walk and laying by your side. Their happy being with you and they provide such wonderful companionship.

However, homes with small children might be a little much for the grey muzzled seniors. They're not much different than older people; they don't always have the patience for the little ones like a younger dog might.

On the other hand, many senior citizens enjoy the companionship of a senior dog.

We Know About How Scary It Can Be To Adopt An Older Pet - You Worry

It's understandable to be concerned due to longevity or health issues. There was a time many years ago that I couldn't set foot in a shelter or watch anything that had to do with animal abuse.

I realized that as a dog lover, I had to change that. I had to put my own feelings aside and face my fears in order to make a difference. It's painful for any dog lover to witness dogs living in shelters, but ignoring the problem doesn't make it go away. No matter how hard it is for you to go into a shelter or how hard it was for you when your lost your favorite dog; you have to remember that there are so many more that need us.

Keep in mind that dogs in shelters are there for a variety of reasons and more often than not, the shelter doesn't always know the dog's history. The dogs are often frightened, uncertain, anxious and some already had issues when they arrived at the shelter.

We've found that most dogs respond to just the very basics; food/water, a place to call home and someone that loves him.

However, many dogs never receive the love that they need and it often takes a little a more help, but they do come around. Fearfuldogs.com is a wonderful website that teaches owners how to work with fear anxiety in dogs and build their trust and confidence once again.
